Solar power is people powered

Resume Highlights: 6 years in the wind-power industry, and a stint at Spain’s biggest engineering firm
Years at SunPower: 2
Under bright Mediterranean skies, the solar market is exploding – and SunPower is leading the charge. Fernando oversees the growing teams of project managers and construction managers who are building utility-scale solar power systems in Spain. Whether working in his office in Madrid or visiting a work-site many miles away, he must ensure that every crew has the processes, tools, and resources needed to bring the large installations online.
An avid reader, hiker, and runner (who frequently takes part in half-marathons), Fernando’s usually moving at a pretty fast pace at SunPower as well. “In this job it helps to have good people skills,” Fernando says. “Also, I need to be very project-oriented, and be able to solve problems. I have to take everything into account – the technological part as well as the customer’s wishes – and then come up with a compromise solution.”
After years in project management in the wind-power industry, Fernando was excited to come to SunPower and continue working with clean, renewable energy. “The wind industry is very mature; solar is still very young, and is growing every day,” Fernando notes. “Renewable is my real vocation: I believe we are going to change the world for the better, and it makes me feel that I’m doing something really worthwhile. It’s thrilling to be with the leader of the leading industry.”
